Special Note:

We have been to busy to keep up with the BLOG: Most of you will have already read the following note that we sent by email. Just in case we thought we would paste it here as well. Look for more updates on the BLOG as soon as we get back to North Carolina! Also, look for an all new Poes In Peru Website coming soon!

Here is our latest email:

Dear Friends and Family:

We just wanted to write one final email before we finish up our first term
here in Peru. We are very excited about being back in the US to see family
and friends. Yet, we feel very sad to be leaving our home, friends and
co-workers here in Peru. We have shed a lot of tears in the last week, and
it will only get worse for the next 72 hours!
We have most of our things packed. Our house is prepared and our
obligations here are nearly over. We will fly out of Lima at 10:15 AM on
Tuesday, May 24th. We will arrive in Miami at 5:00 PM. We will then spend
a few days driving back to North Carolina. We will look forward to being in
our home church, Edgefield Baptist Church on Sunday the 29th.
Would you please fervently pray for us in the next week:

1. Pray for us as we finish the little last minute things. Pray that we
can finish early and relax for a few minutes on our last day.
2. Pray for emotional strength as we say goodbye to our church folks
tomorrow. This will be an especially sad day, because we will not return to
that church when we return to Peru. (Praise the Lord...They don't need us
anymore!)
3. Pray for a quick trip to the airport Tuesday and no delays or problems
with check-in or immigrations.
4. Pray especially for John. He hates flying and is asking God to give him
a special peace for the flight.
5. Pray for a safe and smooth flight. Pray that we arrive on time and can
continue our journey with no delays.
6. Begin praying now that God will give us a successful furlough in the US.
Pray as we seek to recruit more workers for Peru. Pray that even now God
will begin to prepare the hearts of the people we will minister to.

We are counting on all of you to be praying this week!
We will try to get back online as soon as possible. We will be able to
check our email here in Peru probably until mid-day Monday, so if you need
to contact us, fill free to write!

God Bless!
John, Debbie and Elizabeth Poe

Beautiful autumn day in Lima, Peru

Less than a week!

You have probably noticed that we have not been making daily updates to our BLOG. We realize that time is going fast and there is much to be done. Obviously, the BLOG is the last thing on our mind to attend to!

We have managed to better secure our home. Some extra locks were added to the doors and things should be safe. (We live in Fort Knox South!) Someone to check in and clean the home have been set up. We have made arrangements for the service and storage of our car. We have scheduled disconnection of our telephone service, internet service, etc. We have finished preparing our last week of classes, and we are working on grade averages, and making final exams to leave behind. Plus, there is presentations to develop, messages to prepare and final lessons for church to finish studying! Not to mention, paying bills, packing, and a two page "to-do list" that we haven't really started.

We have a goal to have everything "finished" by this Friday so we can try to relax a little during our last weekend of this term in Peru. And to think, we thought we were busy during a normal month! Please keep us in your prayers in the days ahead. Especially Tuesday as we travel. We will try to update the blog again before we leave, assuming our internet service is not disconnected early!

12 More Days!

It is incredible to see the days go by. I wish we almost had a little longer before our scheduled departure! Things are going well for our family. It is amazing the number of little things that have to be done at the last minute. It is also amazing the number of people that invite you for dinner in the last few days before a trip! We are really enjoying our friends here before it is time to leave. Because of a busy schedule, our updates here on the BLOG have been a little slow for a few days. We will continue to keep you updated as things come along.

If you happen to be having trouble sending us email, please be patient. We are sorry that our email service has been having problems lately. Some of our emails are not being sent out correctly, while others are not coming to us in a timely matter. If you haven't heard from us in a timely matter please try this alternate address: poefolks@mail.com

Thanks for your continued prayers now and in the days ahead!

Happy Mother's Day!

Yesterday we had a special day to honor the mothers of the church. In the evening service all of the men, young people and children had special parts in the service. The young people did a drama showing how much mothers really do every day. The men sang a special song, and some children had poems to read. We were pleased to have about 30 mothers in attendance.

Mother's day is a major holiday in Peru. It ranks right up there with Christmas. Restaurants are jammed packed with people taking mom out for the day. Traffic also backs up near all the cementaries with people going to place flowers on their mother's grave.

It was a special day when we all reflected on the blessing that God gave us through our mother.

Ladies from church each received a chocolate candy rose, and a lace wall hanging.

Flashback

We are constantly surprised at how fast Elizabeth is growing up. We enjoy flipping through the pages of our photo albums and remembering special days in her life. Take a moment and visit Elizabeth's blog for an interesting set of pictures.

UGH! Time goes by quickly!

We begin to feel a little nervous about our trip to the states as the days go by. Three weeks from tomorrow we board the plane for our journey back to our homeland. We are nervous because there is lots to do. We have made a "to-do list" on the computer and find that things continue to be added on a daily basis.

We would appreciate your prayers in the next 21 days:

  • Pray that we can finish all the things on the "to-do list" We have to prepare our home and pack up our personal belongings.
  • Pray that our last three weeks in Peru can be fruitful. We still have lots of opportunities at church. We will keep busy in the ministry until we board the plane.
  • Pray for our health. We can't afford to be sick at this extra-busy time.
  • Pray for John and the flight. As many of you know, John has a terrible fear of flying. Many of you prayed for our first flight down to Peru. John was so peaceful that day that it was incredible! Pray for him, even now that God will continue to calm him for the flight.
  • Pray as folks prepare for us back in the states. Our family and church friends are preparing a place for us to stay.
  • Pray for a safety in travel, we will fly from Lima to Miami and then drive back to North Carolina.

We will do our best to keep you updated here on the blog. As always thank you for your loving prayers. Looking forward to seeing many of you real soon!

P.S. We seem to possibly be having problems receiving all of our emails. If you have recently written and not received a timely response. Please try again. We are trying to resolve some email problems.
