Time to brag on the kids!
Before we leave town again we wanted to make a quick post and show off some pictures of the girls. We have had a busy schedule, but there is always time to enjoy our wonderful family. Take a look at what the kids have been up to by visiting: Our PoeKids Blog
Peru in the News
We always enjoying seeing headlines highlighting news events in Peru. This week, Peru has been featured in the headlines nearly everyday. Sadly, it hasn't been much good news.
On Monday a powerful earthquake shook northern Peru. The earthquake was centered in a rural area and measured 7.5 on the Richter scale. This massive earthquake could have been very damaging if it had taken place in a more populated urban area. Early reports indicate that there was some building damage and several lives lost. One friend in Lima reported to us that she felt the earthquake and that it lasted longer than the average tremors. Lima is 450 miles south of this quakes epicenter.
On Tuesday a terrible bus accident in Peru killed 18 people and injured 40 more. The accident happened south of Lima on the PanAmerican highway. Two buses traveling at high speeds hit head-on when one of the buses attempted to pass a slower moving vehicle on a blind-curve. Bus accidents are frequent in Peru. Bus drivers often work long hours with no breaks and attempt to make more money by traveling at high speeds.
On Wednesday news reports discussed Peru's Coca production. Many rural farmers are asking for more open production of the plant. Coca leaves are used for a variety of products in Peru, including soft drinks. However, the leaf is best known for its use in the production of cocaine. Peru's government has attempted to eliminate this illegal use of the plant with limited success. The United Nations estimates that Peru's illicit coca production increased by 14 percent last year.
As you read this "bad news" from Peru use it as a reminder to pray for this needy country. We are looking forward to going back to Peru where we can do our part to take "Good News" to this special country.

Here we go again!
Just a quick update for all of our family and friends. We enjoyed the past weekend near Wilmington, NC. We drove down for Debbie's brother's wedding. Elizabeth enjoyed being the flower-girl for the beach-front wedding. It made for a lovely weekend. Look for some pictures of the girls on the PoeKids BLOG.
This weekend we head out again for a visit to a supporting church in West Virginia. October will find us driving many miles and visiting many churches. We'll do our best to keep you updated along the way.
Please pray for health and safety on the road. John has been dealing with some headaches and would appreciate your prayers. Pray also for God's blessing as we promote missions.

A View from Peru
On the Road Again...
You may notice that our BLOG isn't updated as often as usual now that the baby has arrived. Olivia seems to keep us plenty busy with the free time that we do have! We are enjoying her every minute.
We are about to begin a very busy travel schedule. This next weekend we head to the coast for a wedding. Then we are in a different church every weekend until December! The month of October will be especially busy. We have four missions conferences and a couple of extra churches to visit. When the month is finished we will have participated in more than 20 church services. It should be an exhausting month, but an exciting month as we help promote missions.
Please be praying for us as we travel. We would appreciate your prayers for good health, safety on the roads, and success in sharing the needs of Peru. We'll keep you updated along the way as we can.

You can help!
The television, radio, and newspapers are filled with ideas for helping the hurricane victims. It has been wonderful to watch the loving generosity of the American people during this tragedy. Wouldn't it be even more wonderful to see Christians using the disaster as a way to reach out to folks effected by the storm?
BMM missionaries Roger and Lonie Price live in Louisiana and are using the disaster as a way of sharing the Gospel. Funds donated to the Baptist Mid-Missions "World Relief Fund" will go directly to the Prices so they can help meet the physical needs of people while sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. The opportunities are endless!
We were recently visiting in a church and the pastor announced that the church would be making a donation to the Red Cross. After making the church aware of the Price family and the World Relief Fund, the church made their donation to BMM. The church believes that their funds can make a greater impact in the spiritual lives of people by going through Baptist Mid-Missions. If you are wanting to make a donation to help those effected by the storm and want it to help spread the Gospel, consider this fund.

Hurricane Katrina
The news has been filled with horrible images coming from the Gulf region devistated by Hurricane Katrina. It has been so horrible to watch homes, businesses and property destroyed. It has been so tragic to see hundreds, perhaps thousands killed by this super storm. It has been a real reminder to us as Christians to make sure we have our priorites right in our lives.
We are reminded of this truth in God's Word. In Matthew 6:19-21 we read this important message:
Thousands of people lost all of their material possessions this week. Many others lost their lives. We sure better be living for the future and not for the pleasures that this world offers today. Remember how Matthew 6:33 sums it up:
I love this quote I have often heard our pastor mention: "Only one life, will soon be past. Only what's done for Christ will last!" This storm has reminded us of the importance of working for our Lord everyday. Are you seeking God first in your life?
We are reminded of this truth in God's Word. In Matthew 6:19-21 we read this important message:
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

Time for an update!
It is amazing how a tiny little baby that seems to be sleeping all the time can consume so much of our time and energy! Yet, we are enjoying every second with our new little Olivia. For now, we will use her as our excuse for not updating the BLOG this week. (She's young and can't defend herself anyway!)
The family is doing great. Olivia continues to grow. We can see visible weight gain and changes taking place in her tiny little body. Last week the doctor told us she was doing well and had gained half-a-pound. Her feeding has improved and she is eating more quickly now, which is a blessing during the night. Debbie has completely recovered from the C-section. She was nearly back at 100 percent in one week! I am amazed at her ability to recover so quickly. Elizabeth continues to enjoy being a big-sister. She is doing great at pre-school and enjoying all her new friends and activities there.
We were greatly blessed this week by special services at our church here in NC. The week started off great with dozens of visitors. I am happy to post that nine people trusted Christ as their Savior. Four young people dedicated their lives to full time Christian service. Many others made important decisions during each service. We are praying that it will be a time of continued revival in our home church. It is exciting to be a part of this type of meeting during our furlough time. It was a tremendous encouragement to us all.
Tomorrow we hit the road to begin visiting churches again. This weekend we will be in a church in Salem, Virginia. We will be presenting our ministry to these folks for the first time. We always appreciate your prayers as we seek to promote missions, and recruit others for the needy mission fields of the world.
We'll look forward to being back on the BLOG real soon! Thanks to all of you that check in often. Leave a comment, and let us know your praying. It helps us to know God's people are praying.
