Hurricane Katrina

The news has been filled with horrible images coming from the Gulf region devistated by Hurricane Katrina. It has been so horrible to watch homes, businesses and property destroyed. It has been so tragic to see hundreds, perhaps thousands killed by this super storm. It has been a real reminder to us as Christians to make sure we have our priorites right in our lives.

We are reminded of this truth in God's Word. In Matthew 6:19-21 we read this important message:
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

Thousands of people lost all of their material possessions this week. Many others lost their lives. We sure better be living for the future and not for the pleasures that this world offers today. Remember how Matthew 6:33 sums it up:
"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

I love this quote I have often heard our pastor mention: "Only one life, will soon be past. Only what's done for Christ will last!" This storm has reminded us of the importance of working for our Lord everyday. Are you seeking God first in your life?
